Ingredients

  • 1 oz blood orange juice
  • 1/2 oz lime juice
  • 1 1/2 oz tequila
  • 1/4 oz orange liqueur, such as Grand Marnier
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup
  • coarse salt, for rimming the glass

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake well.
  • Wet the rim of a glass with lime juice or water. Coat the rim with salt.
  • Fill the glass with fresh ice and pour the drink into the glass. Garnish with a lime slice if desired.

Notes

  • Making a Pitcher: For a large batch, combine 1 cup of blood orange juice with 1/2 cup of lime juice, 1 1/2 cups tequila, 1/2 cup orange liqueur, and 3/4 cup simple syrup. Add everything to a pitcher filled with ice and stir well. Taste and add more syrup by the spoonful until it is sweet enough.
  • Simple Syrup: Combine 1/2 cup of water and 1/2 cup granulated sugar in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and dissolve the sugar. Simmer 5 more minutes (to dissolve all the crystals). Then cool and store in the fridge in a sealed container for up to 1 month.
